The American Motorcyclist Association urges everyone to exercise extra caution when using America's roadways during the Labor Day holiday weekend August 31-September 2. "Motorists and motorcyclists across the country must share the responsibility for making the nation's roadways as safe as possible as we take time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of American workers," AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman said.
"Riders and drivers must stay alert, leave plenty of space between vehicles and take an extra look before changing lanes,” he cautions. “And all road users should remain sober and distraction-free. Let's all do everything we can to make sure everyone on the road this weekend can arrive safely and celebrate the holiday with their friends and family.”
The AMA has been at the forefront in dealing with distracted driving by motorists, is taking steps to ensure that motorcyclists are accounted for in the development and deployment of automated vehicle technology and, through the federal Motorcyclist Advisory Council, is sharing riders' perspectives on infrastructure needs.
