CASHING IN FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

Right after AIMExpo left Las Vegas, the National Motorcycle Safety Fund announced it was awarding $5K payouts! A total of 10 grants of $5,000 each will be awarded for projects that could enhance the safety of motorcyclists. Applications are being accepted now through March 31 from individuals, dealers and organizations. Proposals can be for projects supporting specific safe-riding initiatives, projects that would help foster a safer riding environment, or for motorcycle safety-related research efforts.

“We’ve gotten some great responses so far, but we want to make sure everyone in the motorcycling, transportation, and safety communities are aware of this program,” explains Christy LaCurelle, President and CEO of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. “The NMSF board is optimistic that these grants can help make a difference for riders and other roadway users across the country. Proposals can be for projects that are focused locally, regionally, or nationally. We look forward to hearing about the many great ideas.”

To help focus efforts, the NMSF has identified three categories. Projects do not have to exist solely within these categories:

Motorcyclists and potential riders: Projects would help riders and would-be riders approach motorcycling with safety as a priority.

Car and truck drivers: Projects would help increase awareness of motorcycles in the traffic mix among motorists and other roadway users.

Veterans: Safety projects would benefit and support those who have served.

“Dealers with ideas on safety projects for motorcyclists are more than welcome to apply,” adds Director of Media Relations Andria Yu.  “There are not really any strict parameters around what the projects need to be, as I believe the Board would love to see a wide range of ideas. Might be a great way for some dealerships to host a community event centered around safety, especially if they can get much of the costs subsidized!”

The application period closes on March 31, and MSF staff will review the proposals and present relevant, viable plans to the NMSF board. Applicants will be notified by May 1.  Click on the “Apply” tab at the top of the page at:
