The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) added to its Government Relations Department (GRD) by hiring government affairs professional Michael Tran as its Eastern States Representative.
Tran brings years of professional experience to the AMA, serving in a variety of roles that honed his legislative skills and helped him build relationships with legislative stakeholders in Maryland.
“With a large share of our members living in the Eastern United States, Michael’s primary objective will be to advocate on behalf of riders throughout the region and ensure their rights to ride are protected,” AMA Director of Government Relations Nick Haris said. “We are confident Michael will lead our advocacy there with skill and commitment.”
Since 2020, Tran held multiple roles within the Maryland Board of Physicians in Baltimore. Most recently, he served as Lead Health Policy Analyst — a position he held from 2022 until joining the AMA’s Government Relations Department — leading legislative, regulatory and government affairs initiatives on behalf of the Maryland Board of Physicians. Tran also served as the primary policy liaison to legislators, committee counsel, executive agencies, industry and professional associations, advocacy organizations, and national partners.
A graduate of James Madison University, Tran has firsthand experience as a motorcyclist and powersports enthusiast.
“Motorcycling has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, so having the opportunity to combine that passion with my professional experience in government affairs is incredibly meaningful,” Tran said. “Throughout my career, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to build relationships, bring people together and ensure that the voices of those affected by policy decisions are heard. I’m excited to bring that same approach to the AMA, working alongside riders, lawmakers and advocates across the Eastern states to protect the freedom to ride and strengthen the motorcycling community.”
