Today is the day as Young Powersports Layton hosts local dignitaries — including mayor Joy Petro as well as members of the Davis Chamber of Commerce — customers and food trucks at a ceremony showcasing dealership upgrades. “This is a game changer for us,” says GM Justin Custis. “We’re so excited to give the public a first glance at what we’ve done, and engage with this community in a capacity outside of the showroom.”
Most visible is a massive mural. Painted by Adrenaline Murals, the artwork features a mountainous landscape with “Layton” spelled out on the west side of the piece. Two motorcycle riders can also be seen, with one by a garage door near the back of the building. Adrenaline Murals has also hidden several Easter eggs on the wall. These include both a Chevrolet and USPS logo — an homage to the history of the building. Prior to housing Young Powersports Layton, the Main Street facility was once a post office and where one of the company’s earliest Chevrolet dealerships operated.
“This building has historic ties to the Layton community, and we wanted to find a way to showcase that,” Custis said. “We’ve created a landmark for the city, and it’s amazing to look at both from the street and road.”
“We knew this project had to both represent the city of Layton and feature a bit of edge for the powersports community,” explains Jourdan Biesinger, founder of Adrenaline Murals. “We explored every design and color palette we could until Justin’s team was satisfied. Based on the incredible feedback we’ve gotten from the community, we know the hours spent were well worth it.”
While the mural catches attention, it is the internal upgrades that will improve processes that impress Custis. Some of the dealership’s biggest upgrades include a new service area adjacent to the facility — which now houses 10 mechanic bays. “This has opened the showroom floor space and allows us to put even more vehicles on display.”
The completion of this project coincides with the Young Group’s 100-year anniversary. A company that started with the establishment of a single location by Seldon “Jack” Olsen, the business has expanded into more than 30 automotive and powersports franchises across Utah, Idaho and Montana.
“It’s been incredible throughout 2024 to celebrate the Young Group’s 100 years of business,” concludes Custis. “I think this ceremony showcases how important both Davis County and the company have been for each other.”
