SCOT HARDEN IS DRIVEN TO RIDE

Happy belated birthday to industry advocate and Dealernews columnist Scot Harden. To celebrate turning 70 he is featured on the latest episode of the Driven To Ride podcast. Host Mark Long sits down with the hall-of-fame racer, industry executive, author and mentor, whose career spans more than five decades at the highest levels of motorcycling.

“Scot Harden’s fingerprints are all over modern motorcycling,” says Long. “Whether you know him as a racer, an executive, a mentor, or an ambassador for the sport, his passion remains as strong today as it was when he lined up for his first desert race. This conversation is a masterclass in leadership, perseverance, and why protecting the future of motorcycling matters.”

Harden made his mark in the deserts of the American West, racing iconic off-road events. Along the way, he accumulated numerous podium finishes, including overall victories in the Baja 1000, Baja 500, Parker 400, and Las Vegas 400. He later represented Team USA in International Six Days Enduro competition and became one of the first Americans to win a major African rally.

Harden’s impact extends beyond the checkered flag. As an executive with Husqvarna, KTM and Zero Motorcycles, he helped shape successful products, racing programs, and marketing strategies that influenced generations of riders. He also played a key role in KTM’s early Dakar Rally efforts and developed initiatives that introduced countless young riders to the sport.

During his conversation with Long, Harden reflects on his humble beginnings, the lessons learned from decades of competition, and those who helped guide his remarkable journey. Despite his many accolades, including induction to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, Harden remains focused on the future of motorcycling.

Even on his 70th birthday, Harden continues to advocate for riders, public-land access, and the long-term health of the motorcycle industry through his consulting company, Harden Offroad. His message is clear: The future of motorcycling is not guaranteed, and today’s riders must be active stewards for the sport they love.
