Appropriately on the date of the running of the original Baja 1000, Mexican officials gave the 2020 race a green flag. An agreement was signed between the Government of Ensenada and SCORE International to run the 53 edition of the race on November 17-22. Municipal President Armando Ayala Robles noted that health protocols as established by the Mexico Ministry of Health will be adhered to and there would be no mass gatherings of fans. Ayala Robles also recognized the backing of Baja California Governor Jaime Bonilla Valdez. He claimed that the reactivation of the economy is a job shared between government authorities, business sector and general citizenship.
SCORE’s representative Marco Antonio Durazo revealed the 2020 Baja 1000 will start and end in Ensenada rather than running point to point. He commented that the race will be held with strict biosecurity protocols, and various activities, including press conferences, contingency and the inauguration ceremony will be cancelled. Start/finish line access will not be open to the public.
The signing ceremony included the chairman of the Tourism Commission, Yolanda Navarro Caballero; the Director of Economic Development, Brenda Mendoza Kawanishi; Municipal Civil Protection Unit officer Julio César Obregón Angulo, as well as SCORE’s Abelardo Grijalva and Victor Celis Dueñas, president of Hotel and Motel Association.
