#FLASHBACKFRIDAY HONDA COMMEMORATES 50 YEARS OF THE GOLD WING

Honda used Daytona Bike Week as the backdrop to launch the 2025 Gold Wing to flocks of snowbirds and long haul riders alike. A pop-up museum, live appearances by Makoto Endo (who used chopsticks to create an awe inspiring portrait of the iconic motorcycle) and most importantly, demo rides! While the 32,000 sq./ft. event activation area at the Daytona Speedway ended March 9, the entire year will feature Gold Wing tributes and dealer events.

“The Gold Wing is an extremely significant model in Honda’s history—particularly in the U.S.—and we’re excited for our customers to help us celebrate its 50th birthday,” said Colin Miller, Manager of Experiential Marketing at American Honda. “Over the past five decades, enthusiasts have helped guide the Gold Wing’s development as they used it to celebrate their love of motorcycle touring. What better way to mark this important milestone than by gathering together, and what better place than Daytona Bike Week?”

Flashback for those who missed Bike Week, the massive tent housed a pop-up museum displaying each milestone generation of the Gold Wing, as well as historic images and memorabilia documenting both the evolution of the model and the ways that it has been used by customers. Originally offered in 1975, the Gold Wing arguably invented the touring category, inspiring a dedicated culture and community that has participated in the model’s progression over the years.

The demo area offered customer rides on a local route with the 2025 50th Anniversary Gold Wing (standard and Tour versions), as well as opportunities to ride the Rebel 1100 and 500 cruisers; Africa Twin, Transalp NC750 and NX500 adventure bikes; CBR650R and CBR1000RR sportbikes; CB650R naked bike; and CRF300L dual-sport bike. In addition, a roller demo gave attendees a chance to try Honda’s E-Clutch technology.

“Honda has introduced many important models over the years, but the Gold Wing is and always will be special, because of how it kickstarted the touring movement and inspired its own dedicated subculture,” explained Miller. “The Gold Wing has long demonstrated Honda’s engineering prowess, but it’s important to note that its development has often been customer-led. For these reasons and many others, the 50th anniversary of the Gold Wing platform is a significant milestone in Honda’s history, and we’re happy to mark the occasion with stunning touches to the 2025 model.”

Available with either a manual gearbox or Honda’s advanced dual-clutch transmission, the standard Gold Wing is offered for 2025 in a Matte Black Metallic color, and to commemorate the platform’s half-century milestone, it comes with several styling treatments, including bold Gold Wing logos across the saddlebags and side fairings. In addition, there’s a special 50th Anniversary badge situated in front of the seat, and the meter’s “opening ceremony” now displays “Since 1975” when the bike is turned on. As before, the standard Gold Wing has a shorter windscreen than the Tour versions, and for 2025, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be accessed wirelessly.
