Although this year marks the 14th-time noted photo-realist painter Scott Jacobs has collaborated with the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum to create a cover for its Rally annual, the story actually goes back a decade before that when Scott was commissioned by Dealernews to do the covers for the Sturgis Guide — which we published back when Advanstar’s International Motorcycle Shows team was organizing the IMS tour stop in Sturgis.
"Creating the cover image for the Sturgis Magazine has become one of the highlights of my year," says Jacobs. "It keeps me connected to the spirit of this great event and of the Black Hills. Quite frankly, it reaffirms my decision to bring my family here and to make our home in the Black Hills…"
The opportunity to work with Jacobs continued long after IMS decided Sturgis didn't fit its tour model. Even then he was connected to Sturgis and ultimately relocated his studio to nearby Deadwood several years ago. "I'm always thinking about the subject for next year's cover image," he exclaims. "That's always fun.”
