HOWES IS BACK, BUT NOT IN CONTENTION

Former HRC racer and 2022 Rallye Du Maroc winner on a Husqvarna, Skyler Howes showed up in Morocco with his new team. The ZXMoto Rally Team saw Howes to a Top 10 debut on the first Stage.  But it could have been better if he had been given enough fuel to stay on the gas!

“One of those days! To give it to you straight: We are down on power,” said the frustrated former winner. “The team is already working on steps to improve the engine, but for now it is what it is. But the main killer today came from the refueling. When I arrived they told me that 15L was all that was allowed for fuel, I needed 20+. I pushed for more but they didn’t budge. I ended up running out of fuel 10km from the finish.”

Although Howes isn’t sure about why the SNAFU, he knows the new bike has more in the tank. “The organization never said anything about fuel limits and other riders got more fuel if they knew the guy or just got lucky I guess. My teammate Tobias Ebster stopped for me and transferred me enough gas to make it to the finish of the Special and then we both ran out right after the finish and needed to be towed to the closest fuel station 30km away.

“Super frustrating. But thank you to Mathieu Doveze for towing me to the fuel station and to the team for putting in the massive workload. Still in it so tomorrow we will go again!
