#FlashbackFriday Getting a jump on its 80th anniversary Vespa celebrated on the world’s biggest stage, the 111th edition of EICMA. This iconic scooter has evolved into 160+ different models over time, but all paying tribute to the design patent filed on 23rd April 1946. Vespa looks back at its legacy with a special commemorative Primavera and GTS models revisiting elements of the original bike’s unique, inimitable style.
The exclusive color scheme of the Vespa 80th series features a special Verde Pastello green that evokes the spring of 1946, and the arrival of a scooter that was about to take over Italy and Europe, riding the tumultuous, creative wave of a continent’s rebirth after war. The shade of green selected is inspired by the color code of the very first single-color Vespa models, retrieved from the historical archives. This new model features a minimalist yet bold look, enhanced by other tone-on-tone elements in a darker green shade: the saddle, embellished with stitching, the rubber inserts on the footrest, the cover on the rear of the backplate and the handles.
Even the rims are inspired by the Vespa 98 from 1946. Painted in Verde Pastello, the closed structure of the stamped sheet metal rims of the era. The ‘Est. 1946” inscription is a nice touch. Finally, the Vespa Primavera 80th features a cooling grille on the left side, another detail that brings this model closer to its technical and stylistic origins.
