In June, MIC sent comments to the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) outlining the detrimental impact the tariffs would have and asked that motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, and recreational off-highway vehicles not be captured. But on August 18, BIS added 407 new Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes to the list of products subject to the 50% tariffs – including many that impact motorcycles.
In response, the MIC Board endorsed a multi-step campaign to highlight the industry’s precarious position and to ask the Trump administration for relief. These steps include:
1) Writing a letter to President Trump and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick from the MIC and powersports industry explaining how the tariffs will impact the industry and what can be done to keep American powersports businesses running.
2) Asking all MIC members to write to Congress asking for tariff relief for the powersports industry.
3) Asking the dealer network to write to Congress asking for tariff relief for the powersports industry.
4) Working with members of Congress (U.S. Senators and House Representatives) to send a letter directly to President Trump and Secretary Lutnick to highlight the potential job losses and economic hit their districts would see if they lose powersports industry businesses.
5) Working with member company executives to secure meetings with Congress members and their staff at their district offices and inviting them to powersports facilities to meet with workers to understand the economic impact to our industry.

To write accurate and effective letters, we need data to show lawmakers and the administration how tariffs will cripple our $51 billion industry.
