Today marks the winter solstice — the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere — caused when the North Pole is at its farthest from the sun during its yearly orbit around the sun. Despite the temperature outside, the winter solstice is considered the astronomical beginning of winter. Meteorological winter begins December 1st and lasts until the end of February. It’s marked by the coldest average temperatures during the year.
Appropriately for the powersports industry, things will only get brighter from here… hopefully figuratively as well as literally as the days gradually get longer in the Northern Hemisphere until the summer solstice in June. Certainly, the brightest spot on the immediate horizon will be the return of AIMExpo in Las Vegas on January 19! Let this shining star guide us to a renewed season of satisfied customers and a return to normalcy!
Old Man Winter wins today, but things should continue to look up. Our friends at the Motorcycle Industry Council note that streetbike sales were up 13.7% in Q3, despite the pandemic starting and stopping (and starting again with Omicron) and the shipping SNAFUs. This industry was declared essential early on in the COVID crisis and it is proving we are a resilient and resourceful group!
