WHEN THE GOING GET TOUGH… Stage 3 of the World Rally-Raid Championship in Portugal was a tough one for all the Americans. Stretching more than 500 km, the Stage took riders deep into the Extremadura region, where they battled bad weather, fast technical tracks and challenging mountainous trails. With 296 km against the clock, the stage presented a true test of skill, stamina and strategy. “It was a long day today,” admitted Rally 2 standout Preston Campbell. “I started off with a good feeling on the bike here in Spain, but in the middle I made some mistakes and lost some time. I had to regroup for the second half after the refueling and found my flow again towards the end…” For Campbell, competing in only his fourth World Championship round, the focus has been on gaining experience across the Rally’s varied terrain. A few small mistakes just before refuelling disrupted his momentum, but he found his rhythm in the latter part of the stage to finish seventh, 11’40” off the leader. He remains seventh overall and is determined to deliver strong stage results as the penultimate day of racing approaches.

Although he continues to pour it on, the rainy conditions are wrecking Preston Campbell's Rally 2 win hopes in Portugal. Campbell endured another difficult day as he adjusted to the changing terrain in Spain. He completed Stage 2 in sixth, 9’10” off the fastest time. "It was a long day," admits the dampened, but undaunted Campbell. "We started in Portugal in the rain on some sandy tracks that were super fun and then did a liaison over the mountain into Spain and it became harder and fast. It’s a lot drier and warmer over here, but overall the day was good. I felt good on the bike and looking forward to tomorrow and a full day in Spain, so we’ll see how we go." The American hopeful now sits 6th overall with a 12’56” deficit. Despite the gap, he remains firmly in podium contention, with just three and a half minutes separating him from second place.
